The Lindenwood women's soccer team defeated Missouri Southern, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon from Hunter Stadium.
In opposite fashion than Friday night, the Lady Lions surrendered an early goal to Missouri Southern after Denine Tahbaz kicked it just past
Lauren Greenstein following the pass from midfield from Tayler LePage.
Â
Lindenwood took control of the match, holding possession and receiving opportunities to tie it up. Following a couple corner kick chances,
Alyssa Houck evened the score as she found an opening between the goalkeeper's legs after a perfect pass from
Autumn Olendorff to set up the equalizer.
Â
Nearly 20 minutes later,
Becky Roberts scored her sixth goal of the season on an unassisted score that she controlled into the box before finishing in the bottom-right corner.
Â
The Lady Lions held the edge in shots in the first half, 5-4, while receiving all five corner kick chances. Greenstein made two great saves, sprawling out to stop the visitors from scoring before the first goal and a leaping stop to hit it off the crossbar.
Â
Missouri Southern almost tied it a few minutes into the second half, but Greenstein made another incredible save to knock it away over the crossbar. In the 54th minute, the Lady Lions added onto their lead with a cross pass from
Jackie Lindner that touched the foot of Roberts to
Kat Roe. Roe dribbled around a defender and launched a shot from 30 yards out into the upper right corner to make the score 3-1.
Â
The visiting Lions had another opportunity in the 61st minute, taking a free kick into the box and forcing a corner. On the corner kick, Brooke Ishmael found the head of Taylor Beck, who knocked it high of the net.
Â
Roe headed in another goal for her team-leading seventh score of the season on a corner kick from
Payton Williams with 17 minutes remaining in the match to increase the lead to 4-1. A minute later, Lindner nearly tallied her second goal of the weekend, but grounded one just past the goal post.
Â
The 4-1 lead would hold when the final whistle blew, and the Lady Lions would win their third-consecutive match. Lindenwood led with 18 shots, with Roe having seven and Lindner and Roberts each having three. Greenstein made four saves.
Â
Lindenwood improves to 8-6-1 on the season, with a 5-4 mark in the MIAA. The Lady Lions will travel to Warrensburg, Mo. on Friday with a match scheduled with Central Missouri. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.Â
