The Lindenwood women's hockey team was defeated by the Syracuse Orange on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 4-0. The game was the final contest of a two-game CHA series played at the Tennity Ice Pavilion in Syracuse, N.Y.
For the second-consecutive game Syracuse scored the first goal of the game in the opening period. With 11:56 gone by in the first period, Larissa Martyniuk registered her first goal of the season, as the Orange moved ahead by a score of 1-0.
Jolene deBruyn started in goal for Lindenwood, and turned in 15 saves during the opening period of play.
Syracuse carried the one-goal lead into the first period intermission.
The Orange would find the back of the net twice more during the middle period, increasing their lead to three goals after 40 minutes of play. Morgan Blank and Dakota Derrer were the second period goal scorers for Syracuse.
deBruyn and the Lady Lions blanked the Orange over the first 16:19 of the third period, before deBruyn was lifted for an extra-skater. Syracuse would score an empty-net goal shortly after, bringing the score to its final count of 4-0.
deBruyn finished the game with 33 saves, her second-consecutive game with at least 30 saves. On the other end of the ice, Abbey Miller had 14 saves in net for Syracuse.
On special teams, the Lindenwood power play failed to convert on its two opportunities. The Lady Lion penalty-kill unit had another successful game, killing off all four of its chances.
Shannon Morris-Reade had a team-high three shots on goal for Lindenwood.
Britannia Gillanders won six of her eight faceoffs to lead the team.
Tae Otte put forth a team-leading two blocked shots.
Following the conference loss, Lindenwood moves to 0-6-0 on the season, and 0-2-0 in CHA action. With the victory, Syracuse improves to 2-4-2 and 2-0-0 in conference play. The Lady Lions will return to the ice on Nov. 4-5 in Columbus, Ohio for a two-game non-conference series with the Ohio State Buckeyes.
