Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Comeback Attempt Falls Short For Lady Lions At No. 19 Northeastern State

Alyssa Houck scored a second-half goal to cut into Northeastern State's 2-0 lead, but that was all the Lindenwood women's soccer team could muster as the Lady Lions fell to the RiverHawks, 2-1, on Friday night in Tahlequah, Okla.

The Lady Lions out-shot the host team through the first 30 minutes of the match, but could not capitalize on their chances. The RiverHawks got the scoring going in the 33rd minute when Shelby Brewster put the ball past Lindenwood goalkeeper Mary McGilvray after a cross from Anastasia Robinson.

Lindenwood held the 1-0 deficit until the end of the half, but immediately surrendered a goal two minutes into the second half when Anastasia Robinson tallied one of her own for the match.

After a few chances, the offense broke through when Alyssa Houck scored her fourth goal of the season in the 70th minute. Unfortunately for the Lady Lions, the visitors could not put the ball to the back of the net again and Northeastern State escaped the comeback attempt to win, 2-1.

The loss drops Lindenwood to 5-4-1 on the season, with nine of the 10 matches being decided by one goal. NSU held the edge in shots, 14-12, and corner kicks, 3-2. The Lady Lions look to bounce back with a win on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Edmond, Okla. to battle the Bronchos of Central Oklahoma.
