Wade Scores, But Lady Lions Drop Final Match In Oklahoma

Taylor Wade tied the match early in the second half, but three-consecutive goals by Central Oklahoma made the difference in the Lady Lions' 4-1 loss in Edmond, Okla. on Sunday afternoon.

Lindenwood was hot on the attack early on in the match. Jackie Lindner sailed a shot high just one minute into the game, then in the fifth minute Becky Roberts fired a shot that was turned away by the UCO goalkeeper.

In a two-minute span 10 minutes later, the Lady Lions had three more shots as Lindner put one on goal, while Alexis Robbers and Alyssa Houck also tallied a chance. After the Bronchos answered with some shots of their own, the hosts broke through with the first goal of the game as Caitlyn Moore passed to Asha Haile in the 22nd minute for her fifth score of the season.

Each team exchanged attempts the rest of the first half, and Houck put a shot on goal with 32 seconds remaining, but failed to capitalize.

The first chance of the second half belonged to the Lady Lions and they took advantage. Less than three minutes into the period, Becky Roberts took a corner kick and found the head of Taylor Wade, who sent it past the keeper to tie the score at one a piece.

After having a few opportunities to take back the lead, Moore found the back of the net herself to make the score 2-1 with 30 minutes left to play in regulation.

Each team continued to get quality chances, but the Bronchos controlled the remaining part of the half. UCO sealed the match, scoring twice in a minute with less than 10 minutes left to run the score to 4-1. The Bronchos put two more shots on goal before the final whistle blew, but Mary McGilvray would hold the score as is for Lindenwood to drop both matches of the weekend.

McGilvray made six saves on the day, while the Bronchos made 10 shots that failed to get on net. UCO held the edge in shots, 20-11, and corner kicks, 9-1. Lindner and Roberts each had three shots, while Robbers and Houck had two.

The loss drops the Lady Lions to 5-5-1 on the season and 2-3 in the MIAA. Lindenwood will continue its road trip on Friday when the team travels to Topeka, Kan. to battle the Washburn Ichabods.
