Lions Come from Behind, but Fall to Davenport in OT

Men's ice hockey came back from two goals down, but fell to Davenport in overtime Saturday evening at the Patterson Ice Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The Panthers built a 1-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game, and then doubled that advantage midway through the opening period.  The Lions first clamped down on defense, holding Davenport scoreless through the second, and then broke the shutout with a goal from Kevin Walters, assisted by Mitch Riese with 2:07 remaining in the period.  Lindenwood continued to deny the Panthers and found the tying goal at the 11:56 mark of the third on a scoring play from Alex Kalua, set up by Lukas Daniels and Brandon Rumble.  The clock ran out on regulation, sending the contest to overtime at 2-2.  After holding Davenport off the board for over 51 minutes of game time, the Lions gave up the winning goal just 58 seconds into the extra period.

Each team yielded only one power play opportunity, and both went 0-1 on those chances.  The Panthers held a small 40-39 lead in shots, and Cody Karpinski stopped 37 of the 40 shots he faced to take a hard-luck loss in goal for Lindenwood.

With the loss, the Lions dropped to 9-9-1 overall.  They'll go for a series split with Davenport Sunday afternoon.  The puck drops at 1:35 p.m. at the Patterson Ice Center in Grand Rapids.
