Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Morris-Reade Scores as Women’s Hockey Ties at Minnesota State

The Lindenwood women's hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie with the Minnesota State Mavericks on Saturday afternoon from Verizon Wireless Center in Mankato, Minn. Goaltender Jolene deBruyn turned in 32 saves for Lindenwood, while Shannon Morris-Reade scored her first goal of the season for the Lady Lions.

After winning by a score of 5-1 on Friday afternoon, Lindenwood skated even with Minnesota State for the entirety of the first period. The Mavericks had the edge in shots, 12-to-four after 20 minutes of play.

The second period saw much of the same even play that was displayed in the opening period, as the game remained scoreless until the 15:27 mark of the middle frame. It was then while on the power play that Lindenwood scored the first goal of the game for the second-consecutive game, and took a 1-0 lead. Morris-Reade netted her first goal of the season, while Cierra Paisley and Kirsten Martin were credited with the assists on the play.

Minnesota State responded quickly, tying the score at 1-1 with 1:05 remaining in the second period. The teams headed into the second period intermission deadlocked at 1-1.

The Lady Lions and Mavericks would exchange quality opportunities throughout the third period during back-and-forth action on each end of the ice, however each team's respective goaltender stood tall in net, and the score remained tied after 60 minutes of regulation.

deBruyn posted a key save early in the five-minute overtime period, rejecting a Maverick shot from just outside the crease. deBruyn would register another save in the overtime period, which ended with the score still tied 1-1.

deBruyn finished the game with 32 saves, her second-highest total of the season. deBruyn has allowed just five goals over her last five starts, compiling a .964 save percentage and a 0.97 goals against average during the five-game stretch.

On special teams, Lindenwood ended the game one-for-three on the power play and four-for-four on the penalty kill.

Following the tie, Lindenwood moves to 2-10-2 on the season, while Minnesota State moves to 3-11-2. The Lady Lions will return home to the Lindenwood Ice Arena on December 2-3 for the first of three-consecutive home series. Lindenwood will host conference foe Mercyhurst for a two-game series.
