Trio of Women’s Hockey Goaltenders Combine for Exhibition Shutout

The Lindenwood women's hockey team defeated Team USA, who will be representing the United States at the upcoming World University Games, on Friday evening in an exhibition contest at Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Mo. The Lady Lions won the game by a final score of 3-0.

The two teams skated even for the majority of the opening period, as the game remained scoreless into the final minute of play in the first period. With 57 seconds showing on the clock, Kirsten Martin fed Courtney Ganske at the top-right point and Ganske flicked a wrist shot into the upper-left corner of the net, giving Lindenwood a 1-0 lead.

Jolene deBruyn made the start in goal, playing only the first period, stopping all six shots sent her way.

The Lady Lions held a one-goal lead after the first period.

Lindenwood would extend its lead to a two-goal margin just 37 seconds into the middle period. Taylor Girard netted the goal for the Lady Lions, with Ganske and Paisley receiving credit for the assists.

Morgan Skinner played between the pipes for Lindenwood during the second period, stopping both shots she faced.

The Lady Lions headed into the second intermission with a 2-0 lead.

With 10:30 gone by in the third period, Sarah Bobrowski found the back of the net, growing the Lady Lion lead to 3-0. Holly Dietzler and Katie Nokelby notched the helpers on Bobrowski's third period score.

Sarah McGall took over in net for Lindenwood during the final period, making eight saves to finish the shutout for the Lady Lions.

In the end, Lindenwood held the edge in shots 49-16. The Lady Lions also had the advantage in the faceoff circle, winning 33 of the 51 draws.

Lindenwood will return to action on Jan. 6-7 for a two-game non-conference series with the No. 1 ranked Wisconsin Badgers. The series will be played at Lindenwood Ice Arena, with start times of 7:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
