Football's Connor Harris Becomes a Three-Time All-American

Connor Harris officially became a three-time All-American on Wednesday morning when he was named to the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) All-American first team at the linebacker position. Harris is statistically one of the top defensive players in NCAA Division II history, and is now one of the most decorated Lindenwood players in program history.

Harris earned his second straight first-team All-American honor, and he was also a second-team All-American as a sophomore. He was a four-time all-MIAA selection, won three first-team all-MIAA honors, and was the 2015 MIAA Co-Defensive Player of the Year.

This past season, Harris ranked third in NCAA Division II with 12.5 tackles a game, and was fourth with 6.7 tackles a contest. He recorded double-figure tackles in every game but one, and had a season-high of 17. He also collected 8.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one fumble recovery, and two interceptions, including one that he returned for a touchdown.

Harris ended his career with 633 total tackles, the most in the history of NCAA football at any level. Among that total was collecting 184 tackles as a junior, a NCAA Division II single-season record. Also in his career, he recorded 34 tackles for loss, six interceptions, 14 pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and five fumble recoveries.

Besides being an All-American on defense, Harris was a special teams star this past season. He punted 19 times for a 38.8 average, recovered two onside kicks by the opposing teams, and was a perfect 12-of-12 on PAT attempts. He was also a part-time offensive player during his career, averaging 6.8 yards per rush and having seven rushing touchdowns.

Besides his on-field accomplishments, Harris was also a five-time member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll.

Harris will now set his goals on being selected in the 2017 NFL Draft. One of the first steps towards that is participating in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl on Jan. 21.
