The Lindenwood women's hockey team defeated the Penn State Nittany Lions by a score of 1-0 on Saturday afternoon from the Pegula Ice Arena in University Park, Pa.

The game opened scoreless for the first 16:21 as neither offense received any significant scoring opportunities. However, with 3:39 remaining in the first period of play,
Shara Jasper tallied her 19th goal of the season, helping the Lady Lions jump out to a 1-0 lead. Assisting on Jasper's conference-leading 19th goal were
Sarah Bobrowski and
Carrie Atkinson. For Bobrowski the assist grew her total to a team-high 18. Each team would send six shots on goal during the period, which would come to a close with Lindenwood holding the 1-0 advantage.

The second-period consisted of much of the same defensive play, as both teams continued to struggle to find shot attempts. Penn State was awarded two separate power plays during the period, but the Lindenwood penalty-kill unit responded with two successful kills. As a result, the second-period ended with the Lady Lions in front by a score of 1-0.

Defense continued to prevail late into the third-period as Lindenwood held the 1-0 lead. The Nittany Lions pulled their goalie, Hanna Ehresmann with 1:28 remaining in the final period in favor of an extra attacker. Lady Lion goaltender,
Nicole Hensley was ready for the challenge, as she turned in 11 saves during the third-period. When time expired, the scoreboard read 1-0 in favor of Lindenwood. Hensley would finish the game with 23 saves en route to her second shutout of the season, and seventh victory. The shutout was the fourth time she has blanked an opponent during her career.Â

Following her first-period goal, Jasper continued her ascent in the Lindenwood record books. Jasper tied the single-season program record for goals scored, and also broke the career game-winning goal total with her sixth.

Penn State would hold the advantage in shots 23-15. Lindenwood was led in the shot category by five separate skaters, each recording two shots on goal. The Lady Lions held a narrow edge in the faceoff circle, winning 24 of the 47 draws.
Shannon Morris-Reade led the way for Lindenwood winning eight faceoffs.Â

With the victory, the Lady Lions move their season record to 8-20-4 and 5-9-4 from within the CHA. Following the loss, Penn State moves its regular season record to 10-17-5 and 6-7-5 in conference play. The Lady Lions will conclude the regular season portion of their schedule with a two-game series at Syracuse on Feb. 19-20. The two-game series will be played at the War Memorial Arena in Syracuse, N.Y. with puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday and 3 p.m. on Saturday.Â
