The No. 3 nationally-ranked Lindenwood women's lacrosse team began its season with a shutout victory over the University of Indianapolis 15-0 on Saturday afternoon from Hunter Stadium in St. Charles Mo.
The Lady Lions opened the scoring 1:55 into the game, as
Allison Hurley capitalized on a pass from
Sophie Buelow. The goal would ultimately prove to be the game-winning score. Lindenwood would receive goal contributions from eight different players during the first-half. Buelow led the scoring attack for the Lady Lions, scoring three goals, while also adding an assist in the opening half.
Jordyn Constance and
Maddi Ossello each picked up two goals during the first half of play. The two teams headed into the halftime intermission with the scoreboard reading 12-0 in favor of the Lady Lions.
Delaney Solomon got the start in goal for Lindenwood, and played the first 30 minutes before being relieved by
Rachel Ortell during the second-half. Lindenwood would extend its lead to 15-0 in the second-half, on the strength of goals from
Sarah Goetz and
Amanda Schimpke.
Buelow, Constance, and
Allison Hurley each tallied a team-high four points during the season opening win. Erin Abbot paced Lindenwood in both draw controls and groundballs. Abbot secured a team-leading five draw controls, while also scooping up a team-leading four groundballs.
Following the shutout victory, Lindenwood improves its season record to 1-0. After the defeat, the Greyhounds move their season record to 0-1. The Lady Lions will return to action on February 20th at 1:00 p.m. when they take on the McKendree Bearcats from Lebanon, Ill.
