The Lindenwood women's hockey team fell to the Syracuse Orange by a score of 2-0 in their regular season finale on Saturday afternoon from War Memorial Arena in Syracuse, N.Y.
For the second consecutive afternoon the Orange struck first, as Stephanie Grossi tallied her fourth goal of the series, giving Syracuse a 1-0 lead with just over ten minutes remaining in the period. Lindenwood would record six shots during the opening period, which ended with Syracuse ahead 1-0.
The Orange would stretch their lead to two goals at the 12:39 mark of the second-period, as Jessica Sibley lit the lamp for Syracuse. The second period of play came to a close with the Orange up 2-0.
The third period of play did not contain any scoring on either side as the Orange shutout the Lady Lions by a final score of 2-0. Between the pipes for the Lady Lions,
Nicole Hensley turned in 32 saves while allowing the two goals against.
For the game the Orange outshot the Lady Lions by a total of 34-14.
Sarah Bobrowski led the way for Lindenwood in the shot category with four, while
Shara Jasper followed with three of her own. Neither team had success on their power play, as Lindenwood ended the game 0-1, and Syracuse finished the afternoon 0-4.
Tae Otte blocked a game-high six shots for Lindenwood, while
Shannon Morris-Reade won a team-high six faceoffs.
Following the loss, Lindenwood moves its season record to 8-22-4 and 5-11-4 in conference action. Syracuse improves its record to 18-13-3 and 14-4-2 from within the CHA after the 2-0 victory. The Lady Lions will await the results of the remaining CHA games this weekend to determine their first-round opponent in the CHA tournament beginning Feb. 26.
