The Lindenwood baseball team closed out its three-game series against Augustana with a 13-9 loss on Sunday afternoon at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
Â
The Vikings began the game with a five-run first inning on four hits, but the Lions had a big inning of their own.Â
Rayce Singbush started the scoring with a two-RBI double that drove in
Drew Quinones and
Wes Degener. After
Ryan Sosnowski reached base on an error,
Jackson Fuller walked with the bases loaded to bring in
Mike Ehrhard. Zach Perkins followed with a walk that allowed Singbush to score, and Sosnowski tied the game after
Nick Paulda beat out a double play attempt.
Â
Augustana scored a run in the top of the second, but again, the Lions responded in the bottom of the inning when a Ehrhard double drove in Quinones. Lindenwood took its first lead of the game in the bottom of the third inning after Paulda lined out to right field to bring in Fuller, giving the Lions a 7-6 lead.Â
Jevon Boyd entered the game in the top of the first inning and had a strong outing, including two strikeouts in the top of the fourth to give Lindenwood the momentum.
Â
The Lions could not take advantage in the bottom of the fourth, and the Vikings flipped the game around with a three-run top of the fifth inning to take a 9-7 lead. Augustana added three more runs in the top of the sixth inning, and the Lions got one of those runs back on a Quinones triple that scored Prindle. Both teams traded runs in the eighth inning to make it a 13-9 game heading into the final frame.
Â
Lindenwood could not put together consistent offense late in the game, and fell 13-9. Ehrhard has a strong series at the plate with six hits on 12 at-bats, two doubles, five RBI, and one run scored. Quinones had five hits on the weekend with three RBI, one triple, and one double. Prindle and Degener each compiled four hits, while Prindle hit two doulbes, along with a homerun. Boyd took the loss in the Sunday game, as he tossed 3.2 innings with six strikeouts.
Â
The Lions are now 5-2 on the season after the 13-9 loss. Lindenwood will travel to Joplin, Mo. to open up MIAA play against Missouri Southern for a four-game series starting on Friday at 3 p.m.
