Lions Win Home Opener over Colorado State-Pueblo

The Lindenwood men's lacrosse team dominated Colorado State-Pueblo by a final score of 24-5 on Thursday night. It was the team's home opener.
 
In the first quarter, the Lions stormed to a 5-0 lead before the Thunderwolves scored their first goal. Kevin Eskridge found the back of the net twice during that span while Henry Wurzer, Tyler Eidel, and Troy O'Donnell each recorded one goal. David Corazalla registered his first of seven total goals at the 2:22 mark to give the Lions a 6-1 lead.
 
The Lions continued its scoring surge as they posted six more goals in the second quarter. Wurzer scored his second goal of the game to keep the rhythm going from the first quarter. Josh Coons joined in with his first score assisted by K. Eskridge followed by goals from Corazalla with a man-up, Sean Darroch, K. Eskridge, and O'Donnell. Connor Eskridge assisted on Darroch's goal. The Lions headed into the locker rooms with a 12-2 lead after holding the Thunderwolves scoreless in the second quarter.
 
The Lions began the second half with an immediate goal from Corazalla at the 13:48 mark. C. Eskridge assisted to Darroch for the second time, but this time with a man-up opportunity. Three minutes later, C. Eskridge added to the lead with his first goal of the game and his second of the season, giving the Lions a 15-2 lead. K. Eskridge found a pass from Andrew Fanizzi that earned him another goal. Corazalla added back-to-back goals including one from a man-up opportunity followed by goals from C. Eskridge and Coons. Coons' goal closed out an eight-goal quarter, giving the Lions a 20-2 lead.
 
Corazalla scored two more goals in the fourth quarter which placed him with a team-leading 10 goals on the young season. Kyle Lee and Andrew Fanizzi scored their first goals of the season, totaling Lindenwood's 24 goals scored for the game.
 
The Lions took 54 shots which 36 of them were on goal. They also converted 12 clears out of 17 attempted and picked up 59 groundballs to the Thunderwolves' 35. On face offs, Lindenwood won just one more than CSU-Pueblo, collecting 17. K. Eskridge led the Lions with 10 groundballs. Ben Besancenez played the first half as starting goalie until Aaron Wiederhoef was subbed in for the second half.
 
After the victory, the Lions improve to 2-0 as they prepare for another home contest taking place on Sunday. They will be facing Rollins College at noon in Hunter Stadium.
