Lindenwood gymnasts had nine routines that scored a 9.800 or higher on Sunday at Hyland Arena against Illinois. Among those scores was
Katey Oswalt tying a school record in the beam.
Oswalt had the team's best moment when she scored a 9.900 on the beam, including a 9.95 from one of the judges. That score tied
Rachel Zabawa with the top beam score in school history, and it was also the tenth score of 9.900 or higher for all events in Lindenwood history. Oswalt, who finished third overall in the beam, becomes just the fifth gymnast to score a 9.900 while wearing the Lindenwood uniform.
Two Lindenwood gymnasts scored a 9.825 on the beam in
Alicia Floyd and
Lauren Cartmell. Four Lady Lions hit the 9.800 mark on the floor, led by
Rachel Zabawa. Zabawa won the overall floor competition with a 9.875. Oswalt had a 9.825 on the floor, and
Hannah Rector and
Samantha Borges each had a 9.800.
On the vault,
Kayla McMullan led the team with a 9.850, and Zabawa scored a 9.800. The top performer for Lindenwood on the bars was
Valeri Ingui with a 9.700. Oswalt was the team's only all-arounder, and she finished with a 38.025.
In the team scores, the Lady Lions fell to Illinois by a score of 195.875-193.550. Lindenwood outscored the Fighting Illini on the floor with a score of 49.050, the second-highest score in program history. Lindenwood scored a 49.000 on the beam, which was also the second-best mark for a Lady Lions team, and its vault score of 48.775 was the third-highest at Lindenwood.
Lindenwood will head out west next week for a Friday quad meet at the University of California, which also includes Southern Utah and Michigan State.
