The Lindenwood women's hockey team defeated the RIT Tigers by a score of 2-1 on Saturday afternoon during the regular season home finale from the Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Mo.
The first-period ice tilted heavily in favor of the Lady Lions, who received the majority of the period's scoring chances. After being blanked to start the opening 16:04,
Shara Jasper broke the scoring ice and gave Lindenwood a 1-0 edge.
Sarah Bobrowski and
Xylia Lang were credited with the assists on Jasper's goal. The Lady Lions would carry the 1-0 advantage into the first-period intermission, after outshooting the Tigers by a total of 15-2.
The second-period saw a flurry of action for both teams, with Lindenwood recording 18 shots on goal and RIT sending 13 pucks on net. With 52 seconds remaining in the period and the Lady Lions on the power-play, Jasper again found the back of the net, extending the Lindenwood lead to 2-0. Picking up the assists on Jasper's second goal of the game were
Shannon Morris-Reade and Bobrowski. The score would hold for the remaining seconds of the period and the Lady Lions carried the two goal edge into the locker rooms at the end of the second-period.
The Tigers trimmed the Lady Lion lead in half at the 1:50 mark of the third-period, on the strength of a Jess Patton power-play goal. However
Nicole Hensley sparkled in net during the final period, turning aside the remaining shots sent her way. Hensley would end the game with 30 saves, en route to her sixth victory of the season.
Lindenwood held the edge in shots for the game 37-31. The Lady Lions went 1-2 on their power-play, and the penalty-kill unit successfully killed-off two of its three opportunities. Jasper's two-goal performance marked her eighth multi-point game of the season. The game-winning goal was her fourth on the season. Following her two assists, Bobrowski has now had seven multi-point performances this season.
With the victory, the Lady Lions improve their season record to 7-19-4 and 4-8-4 in conference play. Following the loss, the Tigers move regular season record to 7-22-1 and 3-12-1 from within the CHA.
