Baseball Powers Past Lopers

The Lindenwood baseball team defeated Nebraska-Kearney 14-1 on Saturday afternoon in Kearney, Neb.

The Lions jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after the first inning due to a Drew Quinones single that drove in Wes Degener.  Nathan Prindle extended the Lindenwood lead to 4-0 after a three-run home run.  Geoff Hartlieb pitched a great game as he went the distance in a seven-inning, four-hit victory with seven strikeouts.  Hartlieb allowed the offense to be comfortable at the plate, and it showed in the top of the fourth.

Jackson Fuller hit a single to left field to bring in Quinones, and Kyle Teter hit a three-run bomb to left field, giving Lindenwood an 8-0 lead.  The Lions continued to pile on runs with three runs being scored on three-consecutive hits.  Zac Perkins and Quinones hit back-to-back singles, and Mike Ehrhard doubled down the left field line to bring in Perkins.  Fuller hit his second single of the inning the drive in Ehrhard and Quinones, resulting in a 13-0 lead.

Teter scored again in the fifth inning to put Lindenwood up by 14 runs, and the Lions held on to win 14-1 in a shortened game.  The Lions tallied 17 hits in the game, including four from Degener, and four from Quinones.

The win places the Lions at 9-7 on the season and 3-5 in the MIAA.  Lindenwood will complete the three-game series against Nebraska-Kearney on Sunday in Kearney, Neb. for a 12 p.m. start time.
