A former roller hockey and ice hockey player recently connected for an interview among former Lions.
Andy Zilch has been the play-by-play announcer for the Springfield (Mass.) Falcons in the American Hockey League (AHL) since October 2014. He was able to interview Daniel Walcott, who plays for the Syracuse (N.Y.) Crunch, when the two teams met for a series earlier in March.
Daniel WalcottWalcott was a member of the Lindenwood men's ice hockey team during the 2012-13 season and helped guide the Lions to the American Collegiate Hockey Association Division I Men's National Championship game. He was selected by the New York Rangers in the fifth round of the 2014 NHL draft as the 140
th pick overall. The defenseman became the first Lindenwood men's player ever selected and was the first player to play in the AHL or National Hockey League.
Andy ZilchZilch played for the roller hockey team from 2005 to 2009 and won two D3 national titles with the Gold team, although he was unable to actually skate due to an internship he had with the St. Louis Rams Radio Network at the time. He began his broadcasting career by doing play-by-play on Lindenwood campus radio station KCLC. He also spent two years as an intern for the St. Louis Blues.
