Lions Defeat Wheeling Jesuit Behind George's Four Goals

The Lindenwood men's lacrosse team took down the Cardinals of Wheeling Jesuit by a final score of 13-7 on Saturday. The Lions have won two games in a row over ECAC opponents.

After allowing the first goal of the game, the Lions scored three goals in a row, in which two came off assists from Sean Darroch. Jon George, Spencer Elmore, and Connor Eskridge each scored in the first quarter, giving the Lions a 3-2 lead.

The Cardinals were flagged for slashing, and the Lions took full advantage as George scored with a man-up at the 12:38 mark. Kyle Lee followed suit as he slung the ball from the right wing and tallied his third goal of the season. C. Eskridge found the net for the Lions' third straight goal without letting off a Cardinal goal. Kevin Eskridge jumped on the score board off a feed from David Corazalla to give the Lions a five-goal lead heading into halftime.

Wheeling Jesuit stormed out of the gate with two goals within the first two minutes of the third quarter, but the Lions retaliated by scoring a goal from Henry Wurzer, and keeping the Cardinals off the score board for the remainder of the quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Lions registered five goals which two came from George. C. Eskridge had his third goal of the day while Wurzer came away with his second. Darroch added to his team-leading point total with his only goal of the day which increased his total to 24.

Ben Besancenez saved 11 shots and picked up three groundballs while facing 24 shots from the Cardinals. Eight different Lions caused at least one turnover as Hank Likes led the team with two. Tyler Schermann converted 14 of 23 faceoff attempts and led the team with seven groundballs. George entered the game with one goal this year before he had a team-leading four scores. He currently sits with 47 career goals which is seventh in school history.

The Lions were near perfect on clear attempts, completing 13 of 14 chances. They also led the Cardinals with 39 groundballs to their 28. In the shots category, the Lions shot 40 times while the Cardinals attempted 24.

After the victory, the Lions improve to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the ECAC as they will take a 10-day break before traveling to Indianapolis on Tuesday, March 29. The first faceoff is scheduled at 1 pm.
