The Lindenwood baseball team defeated Southwest Baptist by a final of 9-6 on Thursday night at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
Â
The Lions found great pitching from starter
Brendan Feldmann who tossed three scoreless innings to start the game. Lindenwood struggled to find run production in the early innings, but a solo blast in the bottom of the second by
Sam Baxter gave the Lions a 1-0 lead. Southwest Baptist tied the game in the top of the fourth, but it didn't take long for the Lions to get back on top.
Â
Paul Sherwood kicked off the fifth inning with a single,
Wes Degener drew a walk, and
Nathan Prindle laid down a perfect bunt to load the bases.Â
Drew Quinones drove in two runs on an RBI-single, and
Jackson Fuller laid down a sacrifice bunt to bring in Prindle.Â
Rayce Singbush drove in
Mike Ehrhard for the final run of the inning, giving Lindenwood a 5-1 lead after five innings of play.
Â
Lindenwood tacked on more runs in the bottom of the sixth after Degener doubled, and Prindle drove him in on a double of his own. Prindle scored on a Quinones triple, as the Lions took a 7-1 lead. Feldmann was pulled after hurling 6.2 innings, allowing three runs on five hits, and tallied six strikeouts. The Bearcats closed the gap in the top of the seventh with two runs, to make it a 7-3 ballgame.
Â
Quinones drove in Degener, and
Ryan Sosnowski doubled to drive in Prindle for the 9-3 Lindenwood lead with one inning to play.Â
Devin Breihan came in to relieve Feldmann in the top of the seventh, and pitched the remainder of the game to help solidify a 9-6 victory for the Lions.
Â
Lindenwood improves to 10-12 on the year and now stand at 4-10 in the MIAA. The Lions will continue the three-game series against Southwest Baptist on Friday for a 1 p.m. first pitch at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
