The Lindenwood men's volleyball team dropped the first match of its weekend series with Grand Canyon on Friday night at Hyland Arena. The Lions fell by scores of 25-16, 17-25, 25-23, and 25-11.
The third set was the key one in the match. Lindenwood never led but there were 10 ties throughout that set. The Lions scored two straight points late to tie it at 23, but a Grand Canyon kill followed by a Lindenwood hitting error gave the set to the Antelopes. Grand Canyon then jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the fourth set and pulled away after that.
Lindenwood had four more service aces, but Grand Canyon had more two more kills and six more blocks. The Antelopes hit .355 for the match, including a .452 mark in the three sets that they won. Lindenwood hit under .200 for the night, including a .500 mark in the second-set victory.
The Lions had three players in double-figure points and kills.
Ryan Moore led the team with 12 kills, and
Michael Chard had a team-high 14.5 points.
Connor Hipelius had 10 kills and a .643 hitting percentage.
Adam Brewster recorded 43 assists,
Jake Duckworth had team-highs with 12 kills and four digs.
Lindenwood falls to 4-13 overall and 2-9 in the MIVA. The Lions and Grand Canyon will face off again on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
