Looking to rebound from being shutout in both games on Wednesday against Missouri-St. Louis, Lindenwood hosted Missouri Western for an MIAA doubleheader Friday afternoon from Lou Brock Sports Complex. The Lady Lions got down early 4-0, but a six-run comeback capped off a Lindenwood win in game one. Colvis got the ball in game two again, but Missouri Western put a crooked number on the board in the first inning and held on to win 11-5.
Game OneThe Griffons scored first after lead-off hitter Morgan Rathmann reached on an error by
Alexandra Newcomb at shortstop. Missouri Western rattled off three straight hits and a walk, but
Brooklyn Sisk threw out a runner at the plate to only limit the damage to one run scored.

After a single and hit by pitch in the top of the second, Paige Shiftlett drilled a double down the left-field line to give the Griffons a 3-0 lead. The visitors added another run in the third when Kailey Green led off the inning with a homer.

The Lady Lions would claw back starting in the third. After
Madeline Bohr doubled with two outs,
Maria Tippit singled up the middle to give Lindenwood its first run of the contest.
Faith Koffron singled after Tippit to put runners on the corners, but would be stranded.

Lindenwood scored two more in the fourth when
Alexis Theis doubled to lead off the inning. After
Madison Huot and
Rebecca Stocker struck out with pinch-runner
Shelby Sharpe on first, Sisk ripped a single to center to score Theis. Back-to-back wild pitches scored Sharpe to get the home team within one run. Bohr and Tippit drew consecutive walks, but the team would strand the bases loaded in the fourth.

Theis and Newcomb singled, and with two outs in the fifth Stocker blooped a hit into right field to tie the game at four apiece. Battling with two strikes, Sisk won when she launched a one-hopper off the left-center field wall to score two and give Lindenwood a 6-4 lead after five innings.

Starting pitcher
Morgan Colvis calmed down after the third inning, and shut down the final eight hitters to give the Lady Lions a 6-4 win and give herself the fourth win of the season. The win ended the Lady Lions' three-game losing streak and is the team's fifth MIAA win of the season.

Game TwoColvis was back to the circle for the Lady Lions in game two, but the Griffons poured on some runs. After Rathmann led off with a triple over Sisk's head, Shiftlett hit a homer off the scoreboard in left fied to give the visitors an early 2-0 lead. Taylor Hamilton followed with a double, and Sydney Washington singled two batters later to complete the cycle for the team in the first and give the Griffons a 4-0 lead. After an error by
Taylor Scott at shortstop, Rathmann recorded her second hit of the inning with a single up the middle to give Missouri Western a 6-0 lead after its turn to bat in the first.

The Lady Lions wouldn't back down. Sisk, Bohr, and Tippit hit consecutive singles to load the bases with nobody out. After Theis popped up and Touchette reached on a fielder's choice, in which Sisk was forced out at the plate,
Bethany Fountain knocked in a run when she reached on an error by the shortstop. Huot cleared the bases on a 2-1 count when she found the left-center gap to make the score 6-4 afte the first.

Fountain, now in the circle, threw two and one-third innings scoreless before allowing a double to Washington and single Rebecca Mueller to give the Griffons a 9-4 lead in the fourth. In Lindenwood's half of the fourth, Huot walked to lead off the inning and moved to second when Mueller tried to pick off the sophomore at first base. Stocker moved her over to third with a liner up the middle that tipped Shyanne Saladino's glove in the circle and went right to Shelbie Atwell at shortstop to force her out at first. Scott gave the Lady Lions their fifth run when she reached bunted her way on and Huot came across to score. Sisk and Bohr would single as the next two hitters, but would be stranded when Tippit lined out to third to end the inning.

Now up 9-5, Missouri Western chased Fountain from the circle in the fifth after back-to-back hits to lead off the inning. Â Hamilton singled home a run off reliever
Payton Wilson, and Green followed with a sacrifice fly to bring the Griffons' lead to 11-5.

After a quiet sixth inning for both teams, Wilson shut down the Griffons in the seventh to give the Lady Lions a chance down six with one inning left to play. Saladino shut down pinch-hitters Koffron and Newcomb on consecutive groundouts back to the circle to end the game in favor of the visitors.

Bohr and Sisk both had four hits on the day, with Sisk recording two knocks in each game. Colvis earned the win in game one and suffered the loss in game two to move to 4-8 on the season.

With the split, the Lady Lions move to 8-24 on the season and 5-9 within the MIAA. Missouri Western moves to 23-9 and 8-2 in conference. Lindenwood returns to the field tomorrow morning for a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. against Northwest Missouri.
