Lindenwood's tennis teams challenged conference rival Washburn at St. Charles, Mo. on Saturday afternoon. The women pulled out another 5-4 victory while the men fell 6-3 to the Ichabods.
The women jumped ahead 2-1 after
Anna Barbasheva and
Gloria Marras closed the doubles portion with a 9-8 victory with a 7-3 tiebreaker score.
Clara Piccamiglio and
Daria Ivanova collected a win at No. 2 doubles with an 8-6 final score.
Barbasheva, Piccamiglio, and Ivanova added to their win totals with victories at No. 1, 3, and 5 respectively. Piccamiglio needed a third set, but she coasted with a 6-0 rout. Those wins were enough for the Lady Lions to obtain their seventh win of the season and second in the MIAA.
The men won matches at No. 3 doubles and No. 1 and 5 singles.
Theo Butaeye and Antoine Barraud teamed up to win 8-6.
Filip Bogic stretched his winning streak to six matches after edging his opponent at No. 1 by a final of 6-1, 7-6 (12-10). Michele Gaspari won in three sets at No. 5, including a 10-3 super tiebreak. Butaeye split sets, but could not hang on in the third set.
Slobodan Bavrlic nearly got the Lions' fourth win of the day, but lost 11-9 in the super tiebreaker.
Both tennis teams will travel to Texas for spring break. Their first stop will be at Harding as they will face off Monday, March 28 at 2 pm.
