Lindenwood's tennis teams began their spring break matches in Arkansas as they took on the Bison of Harding. The men lost by a final score of 7-2 while the Lady Lions fell 6-3.
On the men's side, the Lions came close to winning one doubles match at No. 1.
Filip Bogic and
Naoufal El Idrissi competed neck-in-neck until the Bison pulled away with a 9-7 win. Harding claimed the other two doubles matches as the match headed into singles.
Bogic won his seventh consecutive match at No. 1 singles in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. He is now 7-1 during the spring.
Slobodan Bavrlic won his third out of his last four matches at No. 6 in three sets. He coasted to a 6-3 third set win. El Idrissi split sets at No. 2, but was edged out 10-6 in the super tiebreaker. Antoine Barraud was placed in the No. 5 slot and made the most of it. He won the first set 7-5, but his opponent battled back with a 6-4, 6-2 victory.
For the women's, the Lady Lions won three singles matches. All three of their doubles matches were tightly-contested as the No. 2 and No. 3 teams only lost by two games.
Four singles matches went to three sets in which the Lady Lions won two of them. The signature victory was at No. 5 as
Daria Ivanova won by a 14-12 score in the super tiebreaker.
Gloria Marras lost the first set 6-2, but she would not back down. She won the next two competitive sets by scores of 7-5, 7-6 at No. 2.
Rebeca Aguilar returned to the lineup at No. 6 after a two-match absence with a 6-3, 6-2 win.
Anna Barbasheva and
Diana Castro were the other two Lady Lions to split sets with Castro barely losing 10-6 in the super tiebreaker.
With the losses, the men fall to 4-6 on the season while the women hold a record of 7-3. Their next stop will be in Fort Smith, Ark. as they will face the University of Arkansas Fort-Smith on Tuesday at 2 pm.
