The Lindenwood softball team opened MIAA play by hosting Emporia State in a doubleheader on Friday nigh in St. Charles, Mo. Emporia prevailed in both games by a 13-4 score in game one, and a come-from-behind win in the second game 13-10.Â

Game OneIn game one, the Lady Lions struggled to keep the Hornets off the bases through the first four innings, allowing eight runs. However, the Lady Lions jumped on the scoreboard after a fourth inning rally that included a sacrifice fly from
Alexis Theis and an RBI-single from
Taylor Scott. The Lady Lions cut the Hornets' lead to an 8-2 margin heading into the fifth inning.

After the Hornets registered two more runs,
Madison Huot singled up the middle to drive in
Brooklyn Sisk followed by an RBI-single from
Alexandra Newcomb which drove in Huot. Those two runs would be the final ones for the game as the Hornets iced the game by a final score of 13-4.

Game TwoThe Lady Lions came out firing on offense to start the second game. Although they trailed 4-1 after the first two innings, the Lady Lions began their offensive frenzy with a run from
Margaret Mikecin on a fielder's choice. Huot followed suit with an RBI-single then Newcomb nailed a double into center field that drove in two more runs, but they were not done.
Caitlyn Touchette blasted a shot way behind the left field fence to drive in herself and Newcomb, giving the Lady Lions a 7-4 lead heading into the third inning.

Mikecin joined Touchette as the second Lady Lion to hit a dinger, but this time over the tall center field fence. Theis had a two-run RBI-single to extend the Lady Lions' lead by a 10-4 margin heading into the fifth inning.

However, Emporia responded with a two-run inning followed by a five-run sixth inning and a two-run seventh inning to cap off its second win over the Lady Lions by a final score of 13-10.

Newcomb led the Lady Lions with three total RBIs and four total hits while Sisk led with three runs scored. The Lady Lions drew seven walks including two from
Madeline Bohr in the second game. Newcomb, Touchette, Huot, and Sisk each recorded a double, and Touchette and Sisk swiped a base.

With the two losses, the Lady Lions fall to 3-15 overall and 0-2 in MIAA play. They will return to the diamond on Saturday at Lou Brock Sports Complex starting at 1 p.m. They will take on MIAA rival, the Ichabods of Washburn.
