The Lady Lions' softball team found themselves back into the win column after a pair of victories over Washburn on Saturday afternoon at Lou Brock Sports Complex by the scores of 7-2 and 5-4, respectively.

Game One
Starting pitcher Morgan Colvis threw a gem as she went the distance, while only allowing one earned run and striking out nine. The Ichabods scattered five hits, including a two-run homer by shortstop Cassidy Merriman to deep left center in the sixth.

The Lady Lions got the offense going when Alexandra Newcomb singled to lead off the second. After a sacrifice bunt that put her on first because of a throwing error by the catcher, Alexis Theis followed Newcomb on a double steal to put both runners in scoring position. After a Maragaret Mikecin walk to load the bases, Rebecca Stocker and Brooklyn Sisk singles knocked in three runs to get the first runs of the game.

Colvis retired the first nine in order, but walked the leadoff hitter in the fourth. A sacrifice bunt and error by Caitlyn Touchette put runners on the corners with two outs, but Stocker caught Erin Keeney stealing second to end the threat.

The Lady Lions added two more runs in the fifth when a Madison Huot double scored Sisk and a Newcomb single brought Huot home. Washburn quickly got those two runs back in the sixth when a Newcomb error set up a homer by Merriman. The Lady Lions responded in their half of the sixth when they loaded the bases with one out. After Sisk reached on a fielder's choice and pinch-runner Shelby Sharpe was thrown out at the plate, a walk by Huot and another Newcomb single gave Lindenwood a 7-2 lead.

Two singles and a fielder's choice loaded the bases with nobody out, but Colvis recorded a strikeout, and induced a popup and groundball to end the game.

Newcomb finished two-for-four with an RBI, and Rebecca Stocker also recorded two hits in the win. Colvis improved to 2-5 on the season and increased her strikeout total to 40 in her 49.2 innings of work.

Game Two
Both offenses scored runs early, but it was the pitching that finished the game. With the score being 4-3 after the second inning, Bethany Fountain scattered five hits and struck out four for the final five innings.

After a leadoff single in the first, Cassidy Merriman came around to score when Rebecca Stocker threw down to second to catch the runner trying to swipe the bag. Theis and Maria Tippit singled home runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead, but Washburn responded in the second with a two-run Merriman triple.

A two-run single by Huot in the second and a solo blast by Theis in the third gave the Lady Lions a 5-3 lead that would hold until the seventh. Fountain would get the first two hitters quickly on groundouts, but a Taylor Zimmerman homer cut the lead to one still with two outs. A couple singles and an error loaded the bases for Lacie Myers, who was two-for-two with a walk in the game against Fountain. On a 1-0 count, Myers popped up to short and the threat and game was over for a 5-4 Lindenwood win.

Sisk, Huot, and Theis compiled two hits apiece, and Fountain recorded her second win of the season.

With the victories, the softball team improves to 5-15 overall with a 2-2 MIAA mark. The Lady Lions will travel to Central Oklahoma next Friday for a doubleheader before going to Northeastern State for two game on Saturday.
