Kleekamp Goes the Distance, Lions Win 10-2

The Lindenwood baseball team defeated Lincoln 10-2 on Wednesday afternoon in Jefferson City, Mo.

The Lions scored first in the second inning after Rayce Singbush hit a solo home run to left field.  Mike Ehrhard did the same in the top of the third with a solo shot to left field, giving the Lions a 2-0 lead.  Lindenwood picked up two more runs in the fourth inning after a Wes Degener triple drove in Paul Sherwood, and Degener scored on a Ryan Sosnowski groundout to put Lindenwood up 4-0.

Brendan Kleekamp tossed a great game for the Lions as he allowed just one hit in the third inning, and surrendered one run on two hits in the seventh inning.  Drew Quinones hit the third home run of the day for the Lions as his solo blast extended the Lindenwood lead.  Sherwood singled up the middle in the eighth inning to drive in Kyle Teter, and Sherwood later scored on a Degener single.

Lindenwood tacked on three more runs in the ninth inning with the help of a two-RBI double by Singbush, and an-RBI single by Jackson Fuller to put the Lions up 10-1.  The Blue Tigers added a run in the bottom of the ninth, but the Lions rode Kleekamp to the finish in a 10-2 win.

Kleekamp threw the complete nine innings with nine strikeouts and just four hits allowed.  Five Lindenwood batters had a multi-hit game, while Singbush drove in three runs, and Degener registered two RBI.

Lindenwood improves to 16-19 on the season and 10-15 in the MIAA.  The Lions will travel to Topeka, Kan. on Thursday to begin their three-game series against Washburn with a 5 p.m. first pitch.
