Softball Falls to the University of Illinois-Springfield

The Lindenwood softball team traveled to Springfield, Illinois for a double-header against the Prairie Stars on Wednesday evening.

Game One
Morgan Colvis started for the Lady Lions as she struck out five batters while allowing four earned runs in six innings pitched. Rebecca Stoker, Alexis Theis, and Alexandra Newcomb each tallied an RBI while the other two runs resulted from errors.

The Lions opened the game up with an RBI-single from Theis in which Brooklyn Sisk scored to give the Lady Lions a 1-0 lead. Colvis built the Lady Lions' momentum with a scoreless inning until the Prairie Stars registered a solo home run in the bottom of the second. Colvis rebounded with another shutout inning in the third. Then the Prairie Stars took advantage of an error in the fourth inning that would post three runs on the scoreboard to give them a 4-1 lead.

With the Lady Lions having a tough time scoring runs, Colvis gave more insurance as she pitched another scoreless inning in the fifth. The offense took advantage of an error at second base after Madeline Bohr stole second base in which Stoker crossed home plate. Taylor Scott then reached on first base off an error, and Bohr scored to cut the score down to a one-run margin.

The Prairie Stars scored two more runs in the sixth inning to give them a three-run lead again. The Lady Lions attempted a comeback as they scored off a fielder's choice RBI and an RBI single. The comeback fell short as the Prairie Stars sealed game one by a final score of 6-5.

Game Two
The Lady Lions struggled to get on base in game two as they recorded one hit and one walk. The Prairie Stars scored the opening run in the first inning off an RBI-single to center field. The Lady Lions managed to get out of the inning, but the second inning became a scoring frenzy for the Prairie Stars. They scored seven runs off a two-RBI double, a three-run homer, an RBI-single, and an error.

After the Lady Lions got out of the inning, Payton Wilson subbed in at pitcher and registered two scoreless innings before the mercy-rule ended the game.

The Lady Lions will return to the diamond on Wednesday, April 20 when they host McKendree for a double-header. Game one will start at 5 pm.
