Men's Lacrosse Edges Out Walsh

The Lindenwood men's lacrosse team defeated ECAC-rival Walsh by a final score of 10-9 on Friday evening in Hunter Stadium. It was the Lions fifth win in the ECAC this season.

The Cavaliers jumpstarted their offense right away as they scored the first two goals of the game within the first five minutes. David Corazalla responded with a goal at the 9:21 mark then Kevin Eskridge followed up with his own score at the 5:09 mark to tie the game up. Walsh registered another goal before the end of the first quarter to give it a one-point lead.

In the second quarter, both team exchanged goals within the first three minutes that included Corazalla's second goal of the game. The Lions then reeled off four goals in a row to give them a 7-4 lead at the 2:28 mark. Josh Coons scored two goals while Connor Eskridge and K. Eskridge each got a score. However, the Cavaliers scored two additional goals in the last two minutes to cut the Lions' lead to one score heading into halftime.

The Cavaliers tied the game up after a scoreless five minutes ensued in the third quarter. Then they were penalized for slashing which sat their player for a minute. Corazalla took full advantage as he scored his third goal of the season to give the lead back to the Lions. C. Eskridge added an insurance goal with four seconds left to give the Lions a two-point lead heading into the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Lions could not score to extend their lead as the Cavaliers found the net twice to tie the game up with five minutes remaining. However, Kyle Lee came in clutch with three minutes left with his fifth goal of the season. The Cavaliers were then penalized five times within the last 1:45 remaining for conduct. The Lions sealed the deal by playing keep-away to drain the clock.

The Lions picked up 32 groundballs while the Cavaliers found 19. Tyler Schermann converted 13 of 20 face-offs in which he picked up six groundballs. Ben Besancenez saved six shots and allowed under 10 goals for the sixth straight game.

The Lions will take on Rockhurst on Saturday, April 23 at 1 pm in Hunter Stadium.
