Baseball Loses in Extra Innings

The Lindenwood baseball team lost a tough extra-inning game to Washburn on Saturday afternoon in Topeka, Kan.

Drew Quinones put the Lions on the board with a two-out single up the middle to drive in Mike Ehrhard in the first inning.  Washburn responded with two runs in the bottom of the first off of just one hit and one costly error by the Lions.  Paul Sherwood reached base in the second inning via walk, and stole second to give Lindenwood the chance to tie the game.  Jackson Fuller doubled to right center allowing Sherwood to score and make it a 2-2 ballgame.

The Ichabods registered two more runs in the bottom of the second to regain the lead.  Ehrhard scored again in the top of the third on a Rayce Singbush single to right field, pulling the Lions within one run.  The Lions put together a clutch fourth inning with the help of four hits.  Sosnowski drove in Nathan Prindle to tie the game at 4-4.  Quinones put the Lions back on top with a two-RBI double to left center to give Lindenwood a 6-4 cushion.

Washburn scored in the sixth inning and again in the eighth to bring the game back to a 6-6 deadlock.  Lindenwood registered three hits in extra innings, but the Ichabods scored on a two-out single in the 11th inning to win game three by a final of 7-6.

Lindenwood drops to 16-22 on the season and 10-18 in the MIAA.  The Lions will return home to take on Lincoln in a 6 p.m. start on Wednesday evening at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
