Lions Swept by Central Missouri

The Lindenwood baseball team fell 6-4 to Central Missouri on Tuesday night at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.

The Lions surrendered a run in the top of the first inning to start the game, but Drew Quinones tied the game up in the bottom of the inning with his RBI-single.  Kyle Teter helped put the Lions in front with a sacrifice fly to right field allowing Mike Ehrhard to score in the third inning.

Brendan Kleekamp threw a great game through the fifth inning, before hitting a bump in the road in the top of the sixth.  The Mules put their first two hitters on base to start the inning, and quickly scored two runs to take a one-run lead.  The Lions caught the Mules sleeping as Nathan Prindle pulled off the hidden-ball-trick to get the second out of the inning, and Kleekamp was able to get out of the jam with just two runs allowed.

Central Missouri made a pitching change to begin the bottom of the seventh, and the Lions stayed disciplined at the plate.  Wes Degener and Prindle drew back-to-back walks, and the Mules made another pitching change.  Ehrhard grounded out to short, but it allowed for both runners to advance to second and third.  Ryan Sosnowski laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to bring in Degener, and Prindle scored on a Quinones single to give Lindenwood a 4-3 lead.

Central Missouri scored two unearned-runs in the top of the eighth after a costly fielding error gave the Mules another one-run lead.  The Mules added a run in the top of the ninth to take a 6-4 lead, and the Lions could not come back in the final game of the season series.

Lindenwood falls to 13-16 on the season and 7-14 in conference play.  The Lions will head to Springfield, Ill. on Wednesday to take on Illinois-Springfield at 3 p.m.
