The Lindenwood baseball team lost 21-9 to Illinois-Springfield on Wednesday afternoon in Springfield, Ill.
Â
The Lions surrendered seven runs in the bottom of the second after the Prairie Stars compiled four hits and the Lions committed one error.Â
Nathan Prindle put the Lions back in the game with a three-run shot to make it a 7-3 ball game. Illinois-Springfield added four runs in the third, and two runs in the fourth to take a 13-3 lead. In the top of the fifth, Prindle walked with bases loaded to bring in a run, and
Drew Quinones hit a bases-clearing triple to left center to put Lindenwood within five runs.
Â
Lindenwood struggled to keep the Prairie Stars from putting up runs, as Illinois-Springfield scored four more runs in the bottom of the fifth, and three more in the sixth to take a 20-8 lead. The two teams traded a run late in the game, but the deficit was too much for the Lions as they fell 21-9 on Wednesday night.
Â
The loss places Lindenwood at 13-17 on the year. The Lions will return home for a three-game series against Fort Hays State set to start on Friday at 6 p.m. at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
