Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men's Volleyball Keeps Postseason Hopes Alive

The Lindenwood men's volleyball team kept its postseason hopes alive on Wednesday night with a 3-1 win over McKendree. The Lions won by scores of 26-24, 25-20, 19-25, and 25-18.

The Lions offense exploded in the game, as it hit .344 and had 64 kills, 22 more than McKendree. Lindenwood had also 43 digs in the contest, eight blocks, and it made just one receiving error on the night.

The first set saw both teams having a high sideout percentage, and the set had 13 ties. The Lions took over advantage in the set on a Ryan Moore service ace that gave the team a 22-21 lead. After six sideouts, Lindenwood finally won on a block by Michael Chard and Josh Jones.

Lindenwood's offense then hit over .400 in victories in both sets two and four. The Lions used a 4-0 run midway through the second set to go up 15-9, and a late McKendree rally never got closer than two points.

The Bearcats won the third set after finishing it on a 6-1 run, but Lindenwood put the game away in the fourth game. It trailed 14-13 before a 6-0 run that gave Lindenwood the lead for good. Jake Duckworth had four kills and a block in that run, and he eventually ended the game with another kill.

Three different Lions had 15 kills or more, led by Jake Duckworth. Duckworth finished with a career-high 23 kills, and he hit .419 on the night. Ryan Moore added 18 kills, and Chard had 15. Ryan Vorderer led the defense with 12 digs, and Duckworth and Jones both had four blocks. Roman Seghezzi had 51 assists.

Lindenwood improves to 5-16 on the season and 3-12 in MIVA play. The Lions will end their regular season on Saturday at Ohio State. Lindenwood will need a win over the nationally-ranked Buckeyes and also hope for two IPFW losses in order to make the MIVA Tournament field.
