The Lindenwood men's soccer team defeated the Missouri S&T Miners by a score of 3-2 on Wednesday evening from Rolla, Mo. The loss was the first of the season for the Miners, who entered the match with a seven game unbeaten streak.  
Missouri S&T grabbed an early 1-0 advantage in the first half, scoring in the game's second minute. The Miners goal was credited to Garrett Trautman, and snapped a streak of four consecutive games in which the Lions have scored first. Following the Missouri S&T goal, Lindenwood trailed for the first time in 471:50 dating back to its September 11 game versus Rogers State.
In the 28th minute, Lindenwood evened the score at 1-1 on the strength of a 
Gabriel Jaimes goal. Jaimes scooped up a loose ball from 10 yards out and deposited it into the back of the net. Assisting on Jaimes' second score of the season, was 
Xhovani Dokaj, his third helper of the season.
Seven minutes later, in the 35th minute, 
Nijaz Muratovic scored on a shot from 18 yards out on the wing, sending the Lions ahead 2-1. The goal was Muratovic's first of the season, with the assist being credited to Jaimes, his third assist of the year. Lindenwood would carry the 2-1 edge into halftime.
Lindenwood added to its lead 74 seconds into the second half, as Jaimes ripped a shot from 15 yards away past the Missouri S&T keeper. For Jaimes, the goal was his second of the evening and third of the season. Muratovic picked up the assist on the play, his third assist of the year.  
The Miners responded with an Austin Parks goal in the 58th minute, cutting the Lions lead to 3-2.
Lindenwood would protect its lead over the final 32 minutes, winning the game by a final score of 3-2.
Aleksa Nenadic made the start in goal for Lindenwood, turning in three saves en route to his sixth win of the season.
In the end, the Lions held the advantage in shots (16-10), shots on goal (7-5), and corner kicks (4-2). The Miners had the edge in saves (4-3).
Following the non-conference victory, Lindenwood improves its record to 6-2-2. With the loss, Missouri S&T moves its record to 3-1-4. The Lions will return to action on Saturday afternoon for an MIAA matchup with the Upper Iowa Peacocks. The match is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. and will be played in Fayette, Iowa.
