The Lindenwood women's soccer team used three goals in the first 19 minutes to gain an early lead Tuesday night in Rolla, Mo. against Missouri S&T, but the second of the night by
Becky Roberts in the second half put it out of reach for the host Miners as the Lady Lions won 4-3.
Taylor Wade began the scoring for Lindenwood just in the sixth minute of the match. After a pass from Roberts,
Kat Roe attempted a shot, but it was blocked. However, the ball fell right to Wade, who knocked it by the S&T goalkeeper to give Lindenwood the early advantage. Less than four minutes later, Roe missed all defenders entirely this time when she scored on a free kick from 20 yards out.
The Lady Lions offense was clicking on all cylinders in the first 20 minutes. Roberts scored her third goal of the season in the 19th minute when she directed the ball to the top shelf 25 yards from the goal.
Missouri S&T utilized a heavy attack the latter part of the half. In the 36th minute, Miners' Julia Crets headed the ball past
Lauren Greenstein to put the score at 3-1 late in the first half. The Miners had a couple more opportunities, including a corner kick as time expired, to cut into the Lindenwood lead, but failed to capitalize.
The Lady Lions attempted to steal the momentum back early in the second half.
Jackie Lindner able to force a corner kick less than a minute in, and Roe had a chance to increase the Lindenwood lead, but sailed the shot wide.
The hosts controlled the ball after that. Finally in the 71st minute, Anna Fink scored one of her own to cut the Lindenwood lead to 3-2. Over four minutes later, Roberts scored what would be the game-winning goal off a S&T turnover right in front of the net. After putting on more pressure, Greenstein surrendered another goal to the Miners, but with only one minute remaining the score would hold at 4-3 as the final whistle blew.
The Lady Lions were able to shoot 14 times, but only five of them made it on net. Greenstein made three saves in goal for Lindenwood. The Miners held the slight advantage in corner kicks with the 7-6 edge.
The 3-0-0 start now marks the 100th career victory for head coach
Laurie Kaminski. The three-match winning streak is the first of its kind since 2013 when the Lady Lions won five in a row. Lindenwood will take its momentum into this Saturday when it travels to Oakland City, Ind. to battle Oakland City University. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
