Wrestling Falls to Nebraska-Kearney

The Lindenwood wrestling team began its stay in Kearney, Neb. on Thursday night, but lost to the Lopers of Nebraska-Kearney by a final score of 27-9. It's only the Lions' second defeat of the season.

Carlos Jacquez collected his 12th victory of the season when he contributed three points for the Lions in a 9-3 decision at 125 pounds. He defeated Vlad Kazakov, the 11th-ranked wrestler in Division II at 125 pounds. Jacquez has won six out of his last seven matches which includes a perfect 4-0 record in duals.

Hunter Haralson, entering the dual ranked No. 5 among 133-pound wrestlers, was featured in a highlighted match against No. 2-ranked Bryce Shoemaker. Shoemaker barely edged Haralson in a 3-2 decision in which tied the dual up at three points apiece.

The Lopers won the next three matches via decision and two pins, giving them an 18-3 lead heading into the 165-pound match between Kyle Jolas and Richard Miranda. Jolas took down Miranda early and never gave up momentum as he finished off the match with a 4-0 decision to give the Lions three more points. It was Jolas' 11th win of the season, and like Jacquez, Jolas holds a perfect 4-0 record in dual play.

David Hamil nearly captured an upset over the 11th-ranked 184-pounder in Zach Stodden when they went into a tiebreaker. However, Stodden came out on top with a final score of 11-9, giving the Lopers a 24-6 lead.

Dylan Archer stamped the Lions' third and final victory of the night when he earned 12 points in his match at 197 pounds. He ended up winning by decision to give the Lions' nine total points for the dual.

Jake Borgmeyer also competed at a high level when he faced No. 6-ranked Kevin Barrett in the heavyweight match. Barrett needed to work tough for an extra point to squeeze by Borgmeyer by a 3-2 decision, solidifying the 27-9 win for the Lopers.

The Lions will continue their stay in Kearney as they prepare for duals hosted by the Lopers all day Saturday starting at 9 am.
