The Lindenwood men's volleyball team began its six-match road trip on Friday night in Phoenix, Ariz. for the first of two contests against Grand Canyon University. The Lions dropped consecutive sets 21-25, 18-25, and 25-27 while hitting.250 as a team. Grand Canyon hit .353 for the match with its lowest total coming in the first set.
The Lions hit .333 in the first set, better than the Antelopes. The score changed hands three times during the set, and was tied seven instances. Unfortunately for Lindenwood, the Antelopes posted a 66 percent on sideouts to defend its way to the first-set win. The second set was a different story as Lindenwood hit a mere .174, before falling in three frames in extra points. The Lions held the 24-23 advantage in the final set, but failed to force extras in the 27-25 loss.
Sam Schindler hit .625 with 11 kills on the night, both leading the team. His six blocks was also three more than
Connor Hipelius and
Nathan Van Dellen. The pair of Hipelius and Van Dellen combined for six kills, while
Jake Duckworth got back on track with nine. Duckworth also set a season-high with a .400 attack percentage.
Adam Brewster led the way with 26 assists, his third time leading the team in the category this season.
Ryan Vorderer added five dimes, and also led the team with four digs. Overall, the team limited its service errors to 15 on the night to mark a season-low and accumulated 52.5 points.
The team will continue its road trip tomorrow night against Grand Canyon as it wraps up its trip to Phoenix. The loss drops Lindenwood to 0-4 on the season, and marks the first time that the Lions failed to force five sets.
