The Lindenwood women's hockey team was defeated by the Syracuse Orange on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 3-0 from Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Mo.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net during the opening 20 minutes of play, which ended even at 0-0.
Jolene deBruyn made the start in goal for the Lady Lions, and stopped all 13 shots sent her way in the first period. Lindenwood failed to capitalize on the only power-play chance of the period.
The second period of action brought similar results to the first period, as the game remained scoreless through two periods. deBruyn stopped 11 more shots in the middle frame, bringing her two-period total to 24 saves. Lindenwood managed four shots from four different skaters during the second period.
Lindenwood entered the third period tied for the fifth time this season. In the previous four contests, the Lady Lions held a 1-1-2 record. Syracuse would score three even-strength goals in the final period, bringing the game to its final score of 3-0.
deBruyn finished the afternoon with 32 saves.
Syracuse outshot Lindenwood 35-13. For the second-consecutive game,
Taylor Girard led the Lady Lions in shots with three.
Britannia Gillanders and
Emma Hare each had two shots on goal.
Lindenwood won 22 of the 54 faceoffs.
Cierra Paisley had the most success for the Lady Lions in the faceoff circle, winning seven of her 14 draws.
Lindenwood failed to capitalize on either of its two power-play chances, while Syracuse was held scoreless on each of its three opportunities.
Following the loss, Lindenwood moves to 5-16-2 and 3-8-1 on the season. With the victory, Syracuse improves to 9-10-5 and 8-2-2 from within the CHA. The Lady Lions will travel to Rochester, N.Y. for a two-game series with the RIT Tigers on January 27-28. Earlier this season Lindenwood split a two-game set with RIT played at Lindenwood Ice Arena.
