The Lindenwood women's hockey team was defeated by a final score of 5-0 during a CHA matchup with the RIT Tigers on Friday afternoon. The game was played at the Gene Polisseni Center in Rochester, N.Y.
After 9:29 of scoreless action to open the first period, RIT seized control of the game, scoring twice in a 13-second span. Caitlin Wallace and Mackenzie Stone were credited with the goals for the Tigers, who ended the first period with a 2-0 lead. Lindenwood outshot RIT, 9-8, in the first period.
Despite outshooting RIT by a total of 10-5 during the second period, Lindenwood was unable to get itself on the scoreboard. RIT would again find the back of the net towards the end of the period, scoring an even-strength goal with 3:05 remaining in the second period.
After two periods of play,
Carrie Atkinson led the Lady Lions with five shots on goal.
Kendall Cornine and Madison Farrand scored the final two goals of the afternoon for RIT in the third period, helping RIT extend its lead to the eventual final of 5-0.
Jenna de Jonge finished the game with 26 saves for the Tigers.
Jolene deBruyn and
Sarah McGall shared the duties in goal for Lindenwood. deBruyn made the start for the Lady Lions, making 15 saves, before being relieved by McGall, who finished the game with two saves.
Lindenwood ended the game with a 26-22 advantage in shots.
The Lady Lions also held the edge in the faceoff circle, winning 26 of the 47 draws.
Holly Dietzler led the way for Lindenwood, winning 12 of her 16 faceoffs.
On special teams, each team finished the game scoreless on three chances.
Following the loss, Lindenwood moves to 5-17-2 and 3-9-1 from within the CHA. With the victory, RIT improves to 5-20-2 and 3-8-2 in conference action. The teams will return to the Gene Polisseni Center tomorrow afternoon as they conclude the two-game series at 2:00 p.m. ET.
