The Lindenwood wrestling team traveled to Warrensburg, Mo. to participate in the Roger Denker Open hosted by Central Missouri on Sunday. The Lions sat their starters to give other wrestlers a chance to show their talents.
Both
Danny Swan and
Morgan Fitzgerald were the lone Lions to place in their weight divisions, finishing fifth place each. Swan, competing unattached at 141 pounds, reached the semifinals after receiving a bye first round then collecting a 9-6 decision and a 11-0 major decision. After falling in the semifinals and the consolation semifinals, he walked over to get the fifth-place finish. Fitzgerald found himself in the semifinals in the 184-pound flight after winning two decisions. He competed tough against Conner Watanabe from Baker, but fell in a 6-3 decision. After losing in the consolation semifinals, Fitzgerald also got a forfeit to collect his fifth-place award.
Patrick Kristin quickly rebounded in the 174-pound bracket when he lost in the main draw by rolling through three opponents impressively. He defeated two opponents by technical fall while pinning the other before falling in the back draw.
John Kramer,
Shea Spradley,
Chase Kelley, and
Tony Arellano each won a match to make an impact for the Lions.
The Lions will come back home to host Central Oklahoma in a dual on Friday from Hyland Arena. The match will start at 7 pm.
