The Lindenwood women's hockey team fell the No. 1 Wisconsin Badgers 5-1 on Friday evening from Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Mo.
Shannon Morris-Reade scored her third goal of the season during the final period for the Lady Lions.
The first period opened with back-and-forth action on both ends of the ice, with each team having a few scoring chances. Lindenwood's
Taylor Girard was whistled off the ice at the 5:40 mark for a slashing minor, sending Wisconsin to the power play. The Badgers would net the lone goal of the opening period just 23 seconds into the power play, as Annie Pankowski tallied her 11th goal of the season, sending Wisconsin in front by a score of 1-0.

Jolene deBruyn sparkled in net during the first period, stopping 13 of the 14 shots sent her way. Wisconsin held the edge in shots 14-3 after 20 minutes of play.
The Badgers would register two even-strength scores in the middle frame. Mellissa Channell scored at the 3:00 mark of the second period, and Sam Cogan lit the lamp at 6:11. deBruyn recorded 10 saves in the period, bringing her two-period total to 23 saves. Wisconsin closed out the second period with a 3-0 lead.
Cogan would score again in the third period, her second goal of the night, extending the Wisconsin lead to a four-goal margin.

Shannon Morris-Reade found the back of the net, bringing the score to 4-1 in favor of Wisconsin.
The Badgers would tack on a shorthanded goal before the end of the game, which ended by a final score of 5-1.
In the end, Wisconsin held the edge in shots 35-11. Girard led the way for Lindenwood in shots with three.
On special teams Lindenwood failed to score on any of its three power plays, while Wisconsin scored on one of its two power plays.
The Lady Lions had the advantage in faceoffs, 29-26.
Cierra Paisley paced Lindenwood, winning eight of her 12 draws.
Following the loss, Lindenwood moves to 4-13-2. With the victory, Wisconsin improves to 18-2-1. The two teams will return to Lindenwood Ice Arena tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 p.m. as they conclude the two-game set.
