After a close battle through the first 40 minutes, a strong third period gave the Lions a 4-2 win and a sweep of Davenport Sunday afternoon at the

Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Missouri.Â
The Panthers struck first to take a one goal lead in the opening period, but two scores late in the frame gave the Lions a 2-1 advantage at the first intermission. Victor Lombardi laced a shot with 3:58 remaining on a feed from Mitch Riese, and then Lindenwood took advantage of a power play for the second score at the 18:45 mark. Nick Greene and Tommy Heinzman combined to set up Alexander Carlsson.
Davenport tied the contest in the second and kept the Lions from adding to their tally, so the game went to the third knotted at two. It was more back-and-forth action until the midway point of the period when two freshmen combined for what proved to be the game-winning goal at the 8:10 mark. Matt Runyon earned the assist on the first collegiate score for Hunter Ruschmeyer. Jake Townsend added an empty-netter with one second on the clock for his first goal in a Lindenwood uniform.
For the second day in a row, the Lions outshot the Panthers 37-26 and Michael Hails rejected 24 of 26 shots he faced to earn the victory between the pipes. Lindenwood went 1-5 on the power play while holding Davenport to one goal in three man-advantage chances.
With the win, the Lions improved to 5-0. They return to the road for another non-conference tilt against top ranked Central Oklahoma October 6-7. The puck drops at 7 p.m. Friday night and then again at 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the Arctic Edge in Edmond, Oklahoma. Â
