The Lindenwood men's soccer team dominated the Southwest Baptist Bearcats on Sunday afternoon, securing a 5-1 victory from Bolivar, Mo. Lindenwood's five goals are the most the team has scored since Oct. 20, 2016 when it also scored five goals at Southwest Baptist.
Michele Ganz opened the scoring for the Lions, netting his team-leading sixth goal in the 33rd minute of the match. Ganz's goal would be the lone score of the first half, which ended with Lindenwood up 1-0. The Lions outshot the Bearcats by a 12-0 margin over the first 45 minutes of action.
Fernando Cordero scored his first goal of the season in the 59th minute off of a penalty-kick chance. Cordero's first goal of the season moves Lindenwood to a perfect three-for-three on penalty kicks this season.
Gabriel Jaimes extended Lindenwood's lead to three-goals in the 62nd minute, as he buried a shot into the right corner of the net from 17 yards out. Jaimes' second goal of the season was set up by a long pass from
Stefan Andric, who recorded his third assist of the season on the play.
Following a Southwest Baptist score in the 64th minute, Lindenwood added two more goals to its lead before the end of the match. Ganz tallied his second goal of the afternoon, and seventh of the season in the 70th minute, while
Johannes Brendle picked up his first score of the year in the 75th minute.
Tim Licht picked up his fourth win of the season in goal for Lindenwood. Licht posted one save.
Lindenwood finished the match with a 21-4 edge in shots, and a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
With the victory, Lindenwood improves its record to 5-4-0 on the season, and 2-1-0 from inside the MIAA. The Lions will travel to Oakland City, Ind. on Wednesday afternoon for a 4:00 p.m. match with the Oakland City Mighty Oaks.
