The Lindenwood men's soccer team posted a 2-0 non-conference victory over Delta State on Wednesday afternoon from Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo.
Michele Ganz scored his third game-winning goal of the season, becoming just the third Lion to reach double-digit goals in a season during Lindenwood's NCAA era.
Ganz broke a scoreless tie in the 11th minute of the match, netting his MIAA-leading 10th goal of the season.
Joshua Scholl was credited with the assist on the play, sending a cross pass from the right side of the field into the goal box, which was headed in by Ganz. With the goal, Ganz extended his scoring streak to four-consecutive games.
Lindenwood managed to protect its one-goal lead for the duration of the first half, and carried the lead into halftime.
The duo of Scholl and Ganz connected again in the second half, extending the Lindenwood lead to a 2-0 mark in the 59th minute. Ganz sent a through ball up the middle of the field for Scholl who drove the down the field and fired the ball past the Delta State keeper. Scholl's goal was the first of his Lindenwood career, while Ganz notched his second assist of the season on the play.
Lindenwood held Delta State scoreless for the remainder of the second half, and prevailed by the final score of 2-0.
Tim Licht earned his sixth victory in goal, while also registering his second shutout of the year. Licht made two saves during the shutout.
Lindenwood outshot Delta State 11-9 during the match, while also holding a 4-2 edge in shots on goal.
With the non-conference victory, Lindenwood improves to 7-5-0 on the season. The Lions will travel to Fayette, Iowa for an 11:00 a.m. match with the Upper Iowa Peacocks on Sunday afternoon.
