The Lindenwood men's soccer team dropped a non-conference match by a final score of 4-2 to the Harding Bison on Friday evening from Searcy, Ark. Lindenwood's
Gaspar Alvarez netted his first two goals of the season in defeat.
After nearly 23 scoreless minutes to begin the evening, Harding was awarded a penalty kick with 22:32 showing on the clock. The Bison converted on the penalty-kick chance, taking a 1-0 lead over the Lions.
Lindenwood pulled even with Harding in the match's 32nd minute, as Alvarez headed into back of the net . Alvarez's first score of the season was assisted by
Jose de Gregorio, his second helper of the year.
Just over five minutes later, Harding regained its one-goal lead, converting on another penalty-kick chance.
Harding's lead was again short-lived, as Lindenwood answered just minutes later. As he did earlier in the match, Alvarez provided the offense for the Lions, scoring his second goal of the evening in the match's 41st minute.
Fernando Cordero was credited with the assist on the play, his first assist of the year.
Lindenwood and Harding headed into halftime even at 2-2.
Harding seized control of the match in the 76th minute, tallying what would prove to be the game-winning score. The Bison added an insurance tally in the 86th minute, moving the match to its final score of 4-2.
Tim Licht made the start in goal for Lindenwood, but was issued a red card in the 23rd minute, and forced to leave the match.
Aleksa Nenadic relieved Licht, and finished the match with two saves.
With the loss, Lindenwood moves to 8-6-0 on the season. The Lions will have a nine-day break before they return to action against Fort Hays on Oct. 29 in Hays, Kan. The MIAA match between the Lions and Tigers is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
