Women’s Hockey Clashes with RIT

The Lindenwood women's hockey team dropped the first of its two weekend games against RIT on Friday evening in Rochester, N.Y. The Lions scored the game's first two goals, but ultimately fell 4-3.

Lindenwood's Hannah Alt opened the scoring at the 4:55 mark of the first period, scoring the first goal of her Lindenwood career, and giving the Lions a 1-0 lead. Alt's score was unassisted and came while on the power play. Lindenwood has now scored a power-play goal in four of its first seven games this season.

Lindenwood maintained its one-goal lead for the majority of the opening period, and with 80 seconds remaining in the frame Ally Larson helped extend the lead to 2-0. Larson's first score of the season was assisted by Shannon Morris-Reade and Alt.

RIT controlled the scoreboard during the second period, scoring three consecutive goals, to take a 3-2 lead late into the middle period. However, with 1:32 left to play in the second period, Cierra Paisley netted the equalizing tally, and sent the two teams into the final intermission tied 3-3. Courtney Ganske and Taylor Girard earned the assists on the goal. With the assist, Girard extended her point streak to a career-high five games.

RIT broke the tie at the 6:27 mark of the third period, taking a 4-3 lead. Lindenwood outshot RIT by a 10-4 margin in the final period, but despite the advantage in shots was unable to even the score.

Jolene deBruyn started the game in goal for Lindenwood, stopping 12 of the 15 shots she faced. Sarah McGall relieved deBruyn with 4:06 remaining in the second period. McGall made three saves during her time in goal.

Lindenwood outshot RIT 31-19 during the game. The Lions won 29 of the game's 55 faceoffs.

With the loss, Lindenwood moves to 1-5-1 and 1-2-0 in CHA action. The two teams will conclude their series tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 p.m. ET from the Gene Polisseni Center in Rochester, N.Y.
