The Lindenwood women's hockey team split its two-game series with RIT, defeating the Tigers 6-0 on Saturday afternoon from Rochester, N.Y. Lindenwood scored a season-high six goals during the victory, the team's most goals against a Division I opponent in program history.
Lindenwood erupted for four goals during the first period, and took a 4-0 lead into the first intermission. In the process, the Lions set a new program record, scoring three goals in a 1:42 span.
Erin Near scored Lindenwood's first goal of the game at the 4:35 mark of the period. For Near, the goal was the first goal and point of her collegiate career.
Britannia Gillanders was credited with the assist on the play, her first assist of the season.
Just 69 seconds later,
Mariah Hinds added to the Lindenwood lead, blasting a slap shot from the blue line to make the score 2-0.
Courtney Ganske and
Taylor Girard notched the assists on Lindenwood's second score.
Girard scored a goal of her own just 33 seconds later, extending the Lindenwood lead to 3-0. Girard's team-leading sixth goal of the season was assisted by Ganske.
Gillanders capped Lindenwood's first-period scoring with 3:34 showing on the clock, moving the Lindenwood lead to four goals.
Christiana von Aulock dished out the assist on the play.
The Lions scoring attack continued in the second period, as
Cierra Paisley scored just 2:46 into the period. Girard picked up her second assist of the afternoon on the goal.
Hannah Alt scored Lindenwood's final goal of the afternoon at the 13:15 mark of the middle period, giving Lindenwood a six-goal lead.
Sierra Burt and Ganske had the assists on the play.
Lindenwood protected its lead for the remainder of the game, registering its first shutout victory since Nov. 18, 2016.
Sarah McGall made her first start of the season in goal for the Lions, stopping all 16 shots sent her way. McGall earned the first victory and shutout of her career in the process.
The Lions outshot the Tigers 23-16 for the game.
Megan Wagner led the team with four shots.
With the win, Lindenwood improves to 2-5-1 on the season and 2-2-0 in the CHA. The Lions will host No. 9 Robert Morris for a two-game series at Lindenwood Ice Arena on Nov. 3-4. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Friday evening.
