The Lindenwood men's basketball team fell to Truman State on Wednesday night in Kirksville, Mo. The Lions fell to the Bulldogs by a 79-67 score.
Â
The difference in the game came from behind the three-point arc. The Bulldogs hit 16 three-pointers and shot over 47 percent from long distance. Lindenwood, meanwhile, was cold, making just five-of-23 attempts.
Â
The Lions got off to a good start and led for much of the first half. Back-to-back three-pointers by
TJ Crockett and
Brad Newman gave the team a 17-9 advantage midway through the half. Truman heated up though, going on an 11-0 run, with the help of three three-pointers. The Bulldogs would keep that lead for the rest of the half and lead 28-24 at the break.
Â
Truman appeared to put the game away in the first eight minutes of the second half. The Bulldogs scored 26 points in that span and built an 18-point lead at 54-36. Lindenwood fought back one more time, going on a 20-6 spurt to get back within four at 60-56 with 5:50 remaining.
Â
Truman's lead was still four with four minutes left, and Lindenwood had the ball. A turnover though led to a Bulldogs dunk, and that shifted the momentum back to the home team. Truman hit three three-pointers after that as it pulled away for the win.
Â
Truman finished the game shooting 47.5 percent from the field, including 54.8 percent in the second half. The Lions shot just 35.9 percent from the field, including 24.2 percent in the first half. Lindenwood had nine more made free throws and turned the ball over four fewer times. That couldn't make up for the 11 extra three-pointers by the Bulldogs.
Brad Newman led Lindenwood with a career-high 23 points.
Dominique Dobbs had 13 points, and
Chandler Diekvoss had nine points and a game-high nine rebounds.
Jackson Price led the team with four assists, and
Adam Pohlman and Newman each had two steals.
Â
Lindenwood falls to 2-1 on the season. The Lions are in action again on Saturday at Florida Tech.
