Box Score The Lindenwood men's basketball team used its depth to earn a road victory on Saturday afternoon in Melbourne, Fla. The Lions defeated Florida Tech by a 76-66 score.
Nine different players scored for Lindenwood, including five players with eight or more points. Florida Tech's top two scorers accounted for nearly 80 percent of its team's scoring, as the Lions allowed only those two players to score more than five points.
Lindenwood trailed early in the contest, but came back and led 37-34 at halftime. Florida Tech tied the game at 37 early in the second half, but the Lions went on a 22-3 run to capture a 19-point lead. In that spurt, the Lions defense forced six turnovers and held the Panthers to just one-of-10 shooting. Lindenwood received points from five different players in the run.
Florida Tech did fight back, getting within four points on two occasions, the last at 68-64 with 1:24 left in the game.
Adam Pohlman drew a foul on the next possession and hit both free throws. That sparked an 8-0 run that clinched the game for the Lions.
Lindenwood finished the contest shooting 49.1 percent from the field, and it made nine three-pointers. Florida Tech shot just over 40 percent from the field. The Lions had five more rebounds and three fewer turnovers. Lindenwood also went to the free-throw line 12 more times, resulting in eight more points than the Panthers.
Chandler Diekvoss had a big game with team-highs of 21 points and nine rebounds. He also had three assists and one block, and shot eight-of-13 from the field.
Brad Newman had 14 points and dished four four assists. Pohlman tied a career-high with 12 points, and also had four assists and a team-high three steals.
Jackson Price hit three three-pointers to finish with 11 points.
TJ Crockett came off the bench to score eight.
Lindenwood improves to 3-1 on the season, with all four games taking place away from St. Charles, Mo. The Lions are home for the first time on Monday night when it faces Hannibal-LaGrange at 7 p.m.
