deBruyn Makes 42 Saves Against No. 6 Minnesota

The Lindenwood women's hockey team dropped the first of its two-game series with the No. 6 Minnesota Golden Gophers on Saturday afternoon from Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Mo. Hannah Alt netted the lone Lindenwood goal in the 3-1 defeat.

Following a scoreless first period, Lindenwood grabbed a 1-0 lead just over three minutes into the second frame. Hannah Alt scored her fourth goal of the season for the Lions, as Megan Wagner and Courtney Ganske dished out the assists. For Ganske, the assist was her team-leading seventh of the year.

Minnesota scored two unanswered goals to close out the second period, and headed into the intermission with a one-goal lead.

The Golden Gophers tacked on one more insurance goal in the final period, to move ahead by a final score of 3-1.

Jolene deBruyn made the start in goal for the Lions, stopping 42 of the 45 shots she faced. deBruyn posted a game-high 15 saves during the second period.

Taylor Girard led Lindenwood with six shots.

The Lions finished the game scoreless on their three power-play attempts.

With the loss, Lindenwood moves to 2-8-1 on the season. The two teams will return to Lindenwood Ice Arena to conclude the two-game series tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
