The Lindenwood women's hockey team dropped the first of its two-game series against the Syracuse Orange on Friday evening from Tennity Ice Pavilion in Syracuse, N.Y.
Taylor Girard tallied the lone goal for the Lions, her ninth score of the season.
Syracuse scored three times during the first period to gain control of the conference tilt. The Orange carried the three-goal lead into the first intermission.
Syracuse extended its lead to four goals in the second period, scoring at the 8:46 mark of the middle frame.
Lindenwood continued to trail into the third period, and eventually broke through with its first score of the evening with just over six minutes remaining in the contest.
Girard netted her team-leading ninth goal of the season, and third score in the last two games to spoil the Orange shutout attempt.
Mariah Hinds and
Courtney Ganske had the assists on the play.
Jolene deBruyn made 23 saves in goal for the Lions.
Syracuse held the edge in shots for the game 27-15.
With the loss, Lindenwood moves to 2-10-1 on the season and 2-5-0 from within the CHA. The Lions and Orange will return to Tennity Ice Pavilion tomorrow afternoon to conclude the two-game series. Puck drop is set for 3:00 p.m. ET.
